Alta Municipal Utilities Water Distribution Systems Improvements
Alta Municipal Utilities has reached the construction phase of a project that will upgrade antiquated infrastructure that has a history of leaks or breaks. The project consists of replacing 6,075 feet of water main and 4,095 feet of water service line utilizing both trenched and trenchless construction, associated fittings, fire hydrants, valves and other appurtenances, and assorted pavement and sidewalk patching.
GM contracting of Lake Crystal, MN was awarded the contract for the project. They will begin work the week of May 27, 2025 and will have multiple crews throughout the community. Disruptions to traffic will be minimal as the majority of the work will be directionally drilled and outside of the roadway. ISG representatives will be on-site throughout construction. Affected areas will include:
• Leander Street, from W 2nd Street to midway up the block
• Benson Street
• N Cherokee Street, from NW 1st St to N 2nd Street
• Industrial Road, from Lake Street to midway down the block
• Buena Vista Street, from E 7th Street to E 2nd Street
• W 9th Street
• W 8th Street, from West Highway to Peterson Street
• Division Street, from W 8th Street to W 7th Street
• Peterson Street, from W 8th Street to W 7th Street
Most water service lines are planned for replacement up to the property line. However, the Alta Community has a handful of existing water services that are lead or galvanized pipe and these pipe types will need to be replaced all the way to the water meter of each designated home. If your home is one of these affected residences, you can expect a representative of the project to contact you with additional information.
GM contracting & ISG will keep affected residents up to date on any road closures and disruptions to services. If you have any questions regarding the project schedule, anticipated timelines, etc. please reach out to the project contacts listed on this project newsletter.
This project is being funded by USDA Rural Development Funds.
ISG, Alta Municipal Utilities, and GM Contracting thank you in advance for your
patience throughout this process.
